There’s not a day goes by now that we don’t hear the bad news that someone we know is facing a battle with this dreaded cancer. It’s a disease that doesn’t discriminate, it treats everyone the same. It shows no favouritism or mercy. It has no regard for money, circumstances or position.

It’s hard to believe, but the seventh annual ‘Great Island 10 Mile Road Race’ takes place on Sunday April 10th 2016 at 10.30am and as usual it’s being arranged for the benefit of the Irish Cancer Society, with special emphasis on Palliative Care.

Palliative Care provides amazing support for the patient and the family during stressful period. It offers cancer sufferers the opportunity to spend their remaining time in the relative comfort of their own homes surrounded by those they love while ensuring them the dignity and privacy that only a home can offer. It is impossible to put a price on such a service – and it’s free.

Our 4 Mile Road Race will also take place on the same day for those less inclined to run the 10 Mile. This is a fast flat course and will start at 10.45am. If running isn’t your thing and you still want to be part of the day then come along and join us in our Sponsored Walk leaving at 10.00am.

The object of this exercise is to raise as much money as possible to ensure that the Palliative Care service is available for those unfortunate enough to need it. This event has raised in excess of €158,000 since it began and we are determined to increase that figure.

We are looking for people to run, walk, help with stewarding or hold fundraisers. Sponsorship cards are available from sonyaomurphy@gmail.com and she can also be contacted on 087 7904895

Details on any of the above can be found on our website.
