Seasonal messages from Cobh Tourism
The Board of Cobh Tourism wishes the people of Cobh, both at home and across the world a Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year!
Cobh enjoyed another good year on the tourism front and reaching the top four as a large Tourism Town in the Failte Ireland Tourism Towns competition is a worthy accolade for a town that is focusing on tourism for its future prosperity. In the company of Killarney, Kilkenny and winner Tralee, this great result is three in a row for Cobh, having reached the Top Ten shortlist each year since 2013.
Cobh had many highlights in 2015. The weather wasn’t one of them and ambitious plans by Cobh Tourism to have entertainment in the Promenade every Sunday were left soggy.
Australia Day in Cobh, Strictly Cobh Dancing and the annual Titanic Commemoration were all organised by Cobh Tourism and Princess Cruises have confirmed Cobh as a “highlight” port of call on their 2016 and 2017 World Cruise Itineraries. Cobh Tourism also played an integral part in the organisation of the Cobh St. Patrick’s Day Parade and the Lusitania Centenary commemorative programme of events.
The Sonia O’Sullivan statue has given us an outstanding piece of public art in our town and acknowledges Ireland’s greatest ever athlete in her hometown. The unveiling generated over €40,000 worth of free publicity for Cobh and as a result many people throughout the country have, perhaps subconsciously, decided to come to Cobh to see the statue for themselves.
Promoting Cobh is the reason that Cobh Tourism was established as a separate entity some years ago and as well as attending Holiday World, Cobh is constantly promoted through visitcobh.com, our Facebook page, through carefully researched and engaging articles and through the publicity generated by innovative events. The Cobh Tourism Ambassador Programme, beautifully designed Cobh Tourist Map and Welcome to Cobh Brochure, promote all that our member businesses have to offer the visitor to Cobh.
Every business in our town depends directly or indirectly on tourism for a portion of their income. If your business is not yet a member of Cobh Tourism then we’d urge you to join in 2016 by contacting Jack Walsh at Cobh Heritage Centre. Cobh Tourism is a Company Limited by Guarantee, where members’ annual subscriptions, a contribution by Cork County Council and fundraising provide the finance for the promotion and marketing of Cobh. In 2016 a comprehensive marketing plan will be rolled out and additional funds raised by Strictly Cobh Dancing 2016 will be spent on promoting Cobh.
If you are passionate about tourism in Cobh, want to see your own business prosper and want to support a dynamic and hardworking member based organisation, then being a member of Cobh Tourism will be a good decision in 2016!
