On Saturday September 5th, the Springfield Ramblers under 11’s attended round two of the FAI future football blitz down in Cappoquin, Waterford after successfully winning round one in Midleton earlier in the summer. The tournament is based on a seven a side game with a squad of ten players split into seven boys and three girls, with two of the three girls playing at all times. The idea of the tournament is to promote young talent across the country and judging on today’s performance we certainly have a few for the future.

The squad from Springfield Ramblers that attended this event were Andrjez Zaczek, Josh Collins, Erin O’Brien, Ronan Murphy (captain), Faruq Adeboyega, Harry Adenowo, Aaron Patterson, Aine Griffin, Charlie Conway and Jane Hovells. The tournament began at twelve noon and saw us in a group of four, in which we would be facing Two Mile Borris, Newport Town and Evergreen. We began the tournament facing Evergreen, who proved to be a tough physical side, in which our opponents came away with a two nil victory, the scoreline may have been much worse if it wasn’t for, Andjez who pulled off some fantastic saves to keep us in the game. After a short break we took to the pitch again in facing Two Mile Borris. We performed much better in this game with players like Ronan Murphy and Aaron Patterson showing their class in defence by clearing at every opportunity. The game finished nil all and we were most unlucky not to come away with the victory. Our final game saw us come against Newport Town, finishing the tournament with a flourish which saw us secure three points courtesy of a three one victory. The goals were scored by Harry Adenowo and two goals from Erin O Brien.

After this victory it saw us finish up with 4 points and second on the table, which was a great result for the club. This tournament was a fantastic experience for the players and very enjoyable time for the players. They will take this on board and help them develop and look forward to many more such like tournaments. On behalf of Springfield Ramblers, myself and Ger Burns would like to thank the parents who attended and in providing transport to the venue. Thanks also to FAI for organising a great event. We all look forward to an exciting season ahead and all new players are welcome to join the club.
