Cobh Camogie played Killeagh in the CountyLeague in Cobh on 28th April last.. what a contrast in weather from splendid sunshine in the previous game to a wet horrible night on this occasion. Conditions were difficult but both teams gave their all in what was an exciting game. Cobh playing with the wind in the first half started well and had an early point from a 45 by Aoife O Connor but despite controlling possession were not converting their opportunities to scores. Killeagh came more into the game and levelled matters from play but the Cobh defence were generally covering well with Tara Looney, Ellen Stafford and Sophie Maher prominent. Cobh regained the lead with Caoimhne Leahy scoring a fine point after good play from Chloe Cashman, Rosie Ford and Ashling Bardsley. Against the run of play Killeagh scored a good goal just before the break to leave the score at Cobh 0 – 2 V 1 – 1 Killeagh.
Conditions worsened considerably after the break with continuous rain making play difficult for both sides, Killeagh with the wind added a further 2 points to lead by 4 points. Despite playing against the elements Cobh were playing with great determination with Emma Moran and Rebecca Crotty now more involved got back into the game with 2 pointed free’s to leave just 2 points between the sides. Cobh were creating chances and won a 30 yard free for a push on Ellen Meaney which Aoife O Connor goaled to put Cobh into the lead with 10 minutes remaining. Killeagh poured forward but with Clodagh Tibbits in goal, Ashling Farrell, Jen McCarthy and Kate Maher hurling with great determination there was no way through for Killeagh. Having regained control in midfield Cobh had the last say when Orla Damery made the game secure for a very hard working Cobh Team scoring a good goal to leave a final score of Cobh 2 -4 V Killeagh 1-3.
