Backstage Academy of Performing Arts at Cobh Community Centre

Backstage, nationally recognised for its Performing Arts work with young people over the past fifteen years, is opening a branch of its Performing Arts Academy at the Centre. Open to 7-18 year olds, grouped by age, it will run on Saturdays from 2pm-4pm beginning on Saturday, 25th April with an OPEN DAY.

Each week the students will undertake workshops from a variety of subjects taken by tutors well known in the Performing Arts. Subjects range from Drama, Mime and Singing to Comedy, Musical Theatre, Dance, Acting for Camera and Performance. The workshops also encourage speech-fluency and communication skills and are ideal for building self-confidence. The Backstage staff working with the students are a unique combination of teacher and professional working in the industry. All staff are vetted for working with young people via Barnados vetting service and they carry Garda vetting certificates

Backstage students can be seen in such shows as ‘The Late Late Toy Show’, and films/TV series including ‘Moone Boy’,’ The Tudors’,’ Game of Thrones’ and ‘The Wind that Shakes the Barley’ and are sent for auditions and castings as appropriate.

The fee is 15 Euro per week, two hour session,paid weekly. No need to book in advance, just come along to the OPEN DAY. The Open day gives an opportunity to experience the work of the company before deciding to join. Entry to the Open Day is free of charge but you must arrive in time for a 2pm start and be prepared to stay for the full session. Under 13’s should be accompanied to the Open Day by a parent but parents are not required to stay during the session. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis at the end of Open Day.
