Springfield Ramblers 1-2 Mayfield United
In a game that Springfield Rams truly dominated from start to finish, two defensive mistakes cost us two goals. On another day we would have won the game comfortably if we took our chances. Great team performance overall, cracking goal by Philippe O Sullivan, excellent performances by Joshua Crone, Tom Ring, Howard Murphy and man of the match Eoghan Kidney, home to Mayfield next week in league with hopefully the right result this time!:-) Thanks as always to home fans for support.

Midleton A 7-0 Springfield Ramblers A
This week the crazy gang made the short trip to the appropriately named Mart Field for a local derby against the magpies of Middleton. It was a tough day at the office for our boys as we were routed 7 goals to nil. Much of the damage was self-inflicted so things can only improve from here.

Goalkeeper Alex ‘Capn’ Kirk was very busy in goal (hopefully your back in better soon Alex) while defenders Patrick ‘Pepe’ Roche, Jake ‘Suarez’ Sawani, Conor ‘Khedira’ Kidney and Daniel ‘Agger’ O’Sullivan fought valiantly against the onslaught. Midfielders Cian ‘Sturridge’ Cotter, Dion ‘Di Maria’ Griffin and Rhys ‘Ribery’ Darcy linked the play well and forwards Josh Griffiniesta, Brian ‘Dynamo’ Dwyer and Liam ‘Chippy’ O’Flaherty made the most of the slim pickings a offered to them. And Darragh ‘Ozil’ O’Regan played his most assured game so far in a Rams shirt when introduced at half time.

The choice for man of the match was unquestionably ‘Suarez’ Sawani who was like the little Dutch boy with his finger in the wall, trying to hold back the swollen tide and he received his Tiki Taco fries from captain fantastic……none other than himself…… ‘Suarez’ Sawani.
CONTINUED THANKS TO SORRENTOS FOR SUPPORTING OUR MAN OF THE MATCH. HOPEFULLY ONE OF OUR OFFENSIVE PLAYERS WILL WIN IT SOON !

Umbro 14 Division 5
Riverstown A 3-2 Springfield Ramblers B
Another closely fought game saw the lads come out the wrong end of the 3-2 defeat.
The first half saw Springfield dominate the game from the start however it was Riverstown who took the lead after the defence failed to pick up their markers from a corner. Springfield came back strong and the front three of Alex O’Mahoney, Ger Devlin and Marc Jones causing all sorts of problems for Riverstown and it was Marc Jones scoring from a free kick which he won that brought the game level. Springfield continued to dominate for the rest of the half but could not convert the chances.

The second half was a more even affair as Springfield failed to control the midfield as in the first half. Chances were few but a good combination between Ger Devlin and Alex O’Mahoney saw Alex upended in the penalty area. Ger Devlin struck the penalty coolly sending the keeper the wrong way to give Springfield a 2-1 lead.

However like so many games in this campaign a 5 minute spell of unforced errors let Riverstown back into the game. Another goal from a corner and a very sloppy goal with a Riverstown player bundling the ball over the line saw Springfield 3-2 down. The last ten minutes Springfield regrouped but could only manage a few half chances.

Again the endeavour and commitment of all the lads could not be faulted and with a little more luck would have got more from this game.

Good performances from Cian Doherty, Shane Kelsal and Marc Jones and Man of the Match Alex O’Mahoney

An excellent team performance from the very first minute lead to a fantastic and well deserved win for the U14 squad. Springfield Ramblers took the game to the home side and the lead came after 15 minutes when Dara O’Connell put the finishing touch after Glenmuir initially cleared off the line.

One up for half time and Springfield Ramblers didn’t let the tempo drop and after piling the pressure on Nathan O’Connell hit a super shot from just inside Glenmuir’s half after spotting the keeper off his line. The shot hit the roof of the net as the keeper looked on. Glenmuir piled on the pressure but the lads stood fast breaking up attack after attack. Glenmuir finally got 1 with 8 minutes to go and the pressure ramped up a few more notches however the lads redoubled there effort and got their reward.

This was a fantastic all round team performance. Thanks to all who travelled to support the team on the day. The squad were looking good in their new warm-up tops kindly sponsored by Cobh Credit Union as seen in the picture below.
Notes
