While Kate is in hospital in Dublin, one or both of her parents are with her. In addition to the worry over Kate’s health, her family have been separated since she was born. Paying for living expenses in Dublin and travelling up and down from Cork is very expensive. Like all families, they have the usual bills and expenses but the current circumstances have added an extra financial strain on the family.

The long term goal is to get Kate home to Cobh to live with her family where she belongs. Besides her potential life long dependence on her ventilator when she is asleep, Kate has significant physical development delay and as a result the family home may need to be modified to support her. She will also need ongoing therapies and equipment to ensure she reaches her full potential. The main reason for our fundraiser is to help Kate get home and give her the future she deserves by supporting her therapies.

– Kate was born on 19th June 2013 in Cork.
– She has 2 brothers Adam age 6 & Alex age 4
– The family home is in Cobh Co Cork
– Her father Mark is from Clonakilty and works in security. He is currently balancing home life with the boys, travelling to Dublin and maintaining his job
– Her mother Lisa is from Ballinadee Bandon and is a physiotherapist but at present caring for Kate is her full time job.

From birth, Kate has had difficulty breathing and as a result she has a tracheostomy and needs a ventilator to breathe.

Kate spent her first 9 months in Crumlin Children’s Hospital. She was transferred to Cork University Hospital for a short period but unfortunately was readmitted to Crumlin on 18th September 2014.

Kate has episodes where she stops breathing and has to be resuscitated. Kate needs 24 hour one to one care. She has certain developmental delay. A team of healthcare professionals work with her daily to support her needs.

Although Kate has significant problems, she is a very happy little girl who loves spending time with her family playing, getting cuddles and dancing to music. She has a fantastic personality and all her family want is to bring her home.
