Cobh Ramblers have today announced the signing of two more additions with midfielders Steven McCarthy and Andrew Bhandarkar joining the club.
McCarthy was most recently at English Premier League side Sunderland where he completed a two year scholarship programme. He hails from Skibereen in West Cork and started his career with his local club Skibereen FC, picking up Irish caps at u15 and u16 level. A number of cross-channel trials followed until he was snapped up by the Black Cats at the age of 16. He quickly became a key player for their u18 side and became a regular in the Republic of Ireland u19 team while at the club. Following the end of his scholarship, Steven returned to Ireland and was most recently on trial with Cork City, playing against Cobh in a friendly midway through last season. Still just 19, McCarthy has huge potential and could become a very promising player for the club. He can play up front or on the wing.
Andrew Bhandarkar is joining the club for a second time having played for the Rams during the 2013 season. Andrew first featured for College Corinthians before joining League of Ireland side Limerick FC, where he mainly featured for their A Championship team. He left the Blues to play locally with Casement Celtic before signing for us at the beginning of the 2013 campaign. He left early in the 2014 season and returned to Casement but is now back at the club. Andrew is a very versatile player who can play in a variety of positions in defence and midfield.
