Denis Murphy of the BMC in Cobh became the first retailer in the town to contribute to the fund that will see a life size bronze statue of Sonia O’Sullivan unveiled in her home town. Denis was Sonia’s first ever sponsor way back when she set out on her running career and was delighted to contribute €500. “Sonia is a part of who we are and it is fantastic that she will be permanently honoured in her home town”, said Dennis as he presented a cheque to Jim O’Rourke of Cobh Tourism.
