logo_secadSECAD is delighted to welcome Sean Buckley who set up the Endurance Challenge 2068km as our guest speaker at our Opportunities Mornings in Cobh which is taking place on Tuesday, 16th September in Cobh Community Centre starting at 10.00 am.

Sean set up the Endurance Challenge 2068km with his cousin James Colbert to raise much needed funds for Breakthrough Cancer Research for their work into new treatments for poor prognosis cancers.

Over the past few years, Sean has participated in some of the toughest endurance races in the world. In 2010, he completed the England to France Channel team swim; in 2011, he completed his first Ironman distance triathlon in the USA; and in 2012 he completed Ironman 70.3 in Mallorca.

Then Sean lost his father to cancer and months after the tragedy, he came up with a plan to raise funds which would mean that others would not have to suffer the pain of loss like he did. Sean and his cousin James decided to take on Ireland’s biggest ever endurance event to raise €500,000 towards breakthrough cancer research.

The two Cork men were joined by members of the public from all over the country as they cycled through every county on the island of Ireland, swam 120km of the River Shannon and ran in four consecutive marathons in each province ending with the Midleton Marathon. They covered the 2068 km in just 22 days

Sean will talk about the experience of taking part in the Endurance Challenge 2068km and how he motivated himself to keep going until the end.

The event will also provide a great opportunity to find out about the Time to Change course which is now running for over 3 years in Cobh. The course trainer and the Spring 2014 participants will speak about how effective Time to Change is in terms of developing momentum for positive change in your life.

Agencies including the Department of Social Protection, ETB, Employability, etc. will be available to talk about the opportunities available in Cobh for people who want to get back to work or education or take part in a training course.
