Autumnal buzz for Cobh

A series of diverse festivals and events in Cobh this September will ensure that visitors will continue to flock to Cobh as autumn takes hold.

The Cobh International Deep Sea Angling Festival starting on 1st September will see Irish, Dutch, Welsh, and UK anglers enjoy world class fishing and great craic in the evenings in this the 48th year of the competition.

On the afternoon of Saturday 6th September the 3rd Jailbreak Triathlon will attract competitors and their families from all over Ireland. The Olympic distance event starts with a swim from Spike Island to Cobh, while the shorter sprint swim starts on the Five Foot Way. The transition area is in the Promenade. Spectators and supporters can enjoy the cycle and run elements from many vantage points in the centre of Cobh. Also on that day the annual Cobh to Blackrock Sailing race will provide a spectacle from the Promenade when the race starts at 2 pm.

On Sunday 14th September the Band of 1 Southern Brigade will perform on the Bandstand at 3 pm. Free children’s entertainment including crab fishing will start at 2 pm and continue all afternoon.

The weekend of 19th, 20th and 21st September is jam packed with events to enjoy in Cobh. The Cobh Blues Experience will host a gathering of National and Local Blues musicians with concerts and performances in Cobh’s pubs and hotels as well as a Saturday afternoon performance in the Promenade.

Cork Harbour Open Day will bring the harbour alive on Saturday with Cobh events including crab fishing and a historical tour of the Titanic Memorial Garden at 3 pm. The Cobh Flower and Horticulture Club will host a fantastic Flower Festival in St. Colman’s Cathedral all weekend that will attract flower arrangers and enthusiasts from all over Ireland. The club is confident of a spectacular event that will be enjoyed by the flower arrangers, local people and visitors and will raise money for the restoration of the cathedral’s Telford Organ. The theme for the Festival is “History, Memories and Dreams”, especially relevant in a town like Cobh.

Cobh’s myriad of tourist attractions will continue to welcome visitors right throughout the autumn and winter. Spike Island has had a spectacularly busy summer and will remain open to the public on Saturdays and Sunday’s throughout September and on Sundays in October with boats leaving Kennedy Pier in Cobh at 12 pm and 2 pm.
