Now in its 8th year running, Cobh Blues Experience takes place on the 19th, 20th and 21st of September. Each year it has grown from strength to strength and this year sees a host of local, national and international acts taking to the stage to bring Blues alive in Cobh for the weekend. The festival is sponsored by Diageo with the support of Cork County Council and Cobh Tourism as well as local businesses. The event will provide over a hundred hours of free music with over 20 acts preforming in 11 indoor and outdoor venues around the seaside town. Venues include local pubs, clubs and hotels as well as the bandstand in the promenade situated on the waterfront making for the perfect setting for some open air electric and acoustic blues. On Saturday the 20th of September at 2:30 pm there will be a family fun afternoon in the promenade with the Cobh Blues Club providing the music along with some invited guests.

The festival was originally designed to bring some life into the town at a traditionally quieter time of the year but has grown in popularity so much that it is now one of the towns musical highlights and brings in returning groups of visitors each year to experience some top quality music. Anyone with an interest in blues music should not miss out on this great weekend of fun. All are invited to attend the free concerts and local Hotels and B&B’s would be delighted to put you up for a night or the full weekend so you can enjoy the music without the hassle of getting home after.

The experience begins on Friday with concerts taking place right across the town including Michelle Cotter, finalist of TG4 production Glór Tíre playing in Jack Doyles Bar, The Hitmen playing in The Well House Bar, Rob Harley in the Rob Roy Bar and The Bluez Crew playing in Ryan’s Bar as well as various other concerts in other participating venues. Over the course of the weekend the times of the concerts vary from day and night to cater for all age groups and this year sees the return of the very popular midnight blues sessions on Friday and Saturday night in The Bellavista Hotel where Alexander John will be preforming on the Friday night and Susan Tomilty & Pat Farrell will perform on the Saturday night. Local hero and “The Voice of Ireland” finalist, Jamie Stanton will be singing in The Mauritania Bar on Friday night and making other appearances across the weekend too and is sure to draw a large crowd. Other performers playing over the weekend include Blind Lemon, Joe O Callaghan & The Roosters, Boxcar Bertha, Dr. Dec & The Side Effect, The Vipers and many more.

On Friday the 12th of September, a warm up fund raising concert in aid of the Cobh Blues Experience will take place in the Commodore Hotel. Tickets are €5.00 and all proceeds will go into covering some of the costs of what will be a fantastic weekend of free music for all to enjoy. Providing the entertainment on the night will be Slam featuring Jamie Stanton and Gerry Quigley and the Shinkickers, doors open at 9:45 with tickets available on the door. Cobh looks forward to welcoming blues and music fans alike to experience the very best of free music.
