camogie-crest400x4001Cobh U15 Camogie played their first East Cork Summer League game in Cobh V St Catherines on Monday 7th July. This was a very even game with very good skill levels on both sides. The visitors started on the front foot and had theCobh defence under pressure early on. St Catherines were first to score with 2 good points from placed balls. Cobh were lucky that Ellen Meaney was in great form in goals and made some very good saves, she was ably assisted by Tara Looney & Ashling Farrell. Cobh came more into the game with Chloe Cashman playing very well at midfield and together with Aoife O Connor supplied good ball to the Cobhforwards. Cobh got on the score sheet with 2 good points from the ever reliable Shannid McGrath. This was followed by a good Cobhmove involving Orna Mccarthy and Shannid Mcgrath with Chloe Walsh finishing the move off with determination scoring a good Goal from close range. This was followed by a point from Jennifer Mccarthy who soloed in from the side before tapping over the bar. The score board was a little unfair on the visitors who had more than their share of possession and sure enough Catherines were next to score a good goal from close range. Cobh finished off the half with another good point from Shannid McGrath and another goal from Chloe walsh finishing off good work from Ashling Bardsley. Half time Cobh 2-4 V Catherines 1-2.

St Catherines started the second half very well and scored 2-1 without reply to take the lead. The Cobh defence was been over worked but Ellie May O Sullivan and Laura & Ellen Stafford were holding their end up well and Ellen Meaney continued to make good saves. After hard work from Chloe Cashman Shannid McGrath scored a goal from close range to putCobh back in front 3-4 V 3-3. The game was flowing from one end to the next but Catherines were doing the scoring and added two points with one coming from a free. Cobh were awarded a free about 60 yards out and following a good delivery from Aoife O connor Chloe Walsh completed her hat trick to put cobh 2 points ahead. St Catherines swept down the field and had a number of attacks cleared by theCobh defence but the pressure was now relentless..

Catherines secured a 45. time was up and the referee made it clear that Catherines had to score direct …and this they did with a superb 45 high to the cobh net to give St Catherines victory on the score line 4-5 V 4-4. Heart break for Cobh but they can take consolation from a very goodperformance and in the knowledge that it took a great piece of skill to beat them.
