Cobh wakes up with four Cork County Councillors
Before local elections began on Friday morning, the town of Cobh had just one representative in County Hall and this morning, after a very long night of counts, we find ourselves with four. Cllr Cathal Rassmussen, who only entered the political arena six months ago when co-opted as John Mulvihill’s replacement, Sinead Sheppard, Claire Cullinane and Kieran McCarthy have all been elected to represent Glanmire, Cobh and Carrigtwohill at County Hall.
This is a great achievement for Cobh as the highest number of representatives we’ve had before was two and now we see ourselves with four of the seven that were available for grabs. How bad. At one stage it looked like we may only have had one and that would have been disastrous. It now remains to be seen if these newly elected councillors will deliver their pre-election promises, with access to the island top of the list.
