Springfield Ramblers (0) v Castleview (2)
It was a champions league cup final warmup for the Galacticos of Real Ramblers who welcomed city rivals Athletico Castleview for a Tuesday night football special.
Hull City’s David ‘I wish I was good enough for the U11b’s’ Meyler is a big fan of our lads and was present to try and pick up a few tips, but he made the mistake of trying to swipe the ball from Emmanuel ‘Gattuso’ Adeosun and quickly found himself at the bottom of a 16 man pile on. Its one in, all in, with these boys. He won’t try that again in a hurry.

Our young bucks dazzled from the off with all bar none putting in their best display of the campaign. Alex ‘Capn’ Kirk, Jake ‘Terry’ Kennedy, David ‘Luiz’ Julius and Charlie ‘Maldini’ O’Regan made many a forward quiver while midfield maestros Paul ‘Messi’ Murphy and Daniel ‘Alves’ Julius weaved their usual magic. Quicksilver trio of Sam ‘Nasri’ Kennedy, Darragh ‘Ozil’ Regan and Ben ‘The Postman’ Kennedy lit up the packed stadium as shouts of Ole, conducted by Casillas Senior, greeted every touch. While predator Sultan ‘Aguero’ Adebayo picked off the chances one by one.

Our fair play squad rotation policy meant we were able to please the fans still further with the HT intro of Sean ‘the Real Deal’ Devlin, Maximus ‘Gladiator’ Devlin (no relation but cut from the same granite rock), Brian ‘Dynamo’ Dwyer and ‘Gattuso’ who was finally persuaded to take his foot off Meyler’s head.

The highlights of the game were the three times goalkeeper and captain Ronan ‘Casillas’ O’Connor saved in 1 on 1 situations and he received his well deserved Sorrentos sponsored man of the match Tiki Taco fries from a visibly shook Meyler.

U13 CON ELLIOT CUP – Carrigaline Utd (2) v Springfield Ramblers (3)
Springers came out on top of this cup tie with a great team display. All over the park the lads fought for every ball and didnt give Carraigaline any time on the ball. They took the lead through Alex Mc Carthy. Carraigaline got one back against the run of play. Springers took the lead again in the second half from Emmanuel O Neal. They kept the best till last through a great strike from Luke Hamilton from outside the box. Carraigaline pilled on the pressure in the last ten minutes but they couldnt break down an excellant defence. All twelve players deserve great credit for the way they performed tonight. Alex Mc Carthy stood out as man of the match with a fantastic performance from start to finish.

Our penultimate match of the season was played out on perfect evening in Bessboro park. With a few absentees it was decided to make some positional changes and it showed in the early stages as the players adjusted to some new positions. The first half was proving a tight affair with very few chances, eventually with a fine ball over the top from Cian Doherty to Marc Jones, who was starting up front for the first time, was controlled well and as the keeper advanced he loped it over him and into the net. The game continued with the sides very even and just before the half time it was Marc Jones that again took advantage of a back pass to nip in and slide it past the keeper.

Avondale came out fighting in the second half and after five minutes got a deserved goal. However as Springfield began to start to settle they began to put a bit of pressure on Avondale. It was through this pressure and some good closing down by Ger Devlin that forced Avondale into a mistake and an OG made it 3-1 with 15mins to go. Shortly after, another good move and a fine angled strike by Evan O’Leary made it 4-1. Avondale never gave up and a wonder strike with 5 minutes remaining brought them back into the game, However with Rhys, Shane, Marc and Rowland playing well in defence Avondale had little chance of getting another. A great squad performance but great effort on the night by Josh Kelly and Rhys Welham and a Man of the Match performance by Marc Jones.

Despite going behind twice Springfield showed great character to get back into the game. They finished the stronger team hitting the crossbar and post in last 10 minutes. Well done to the lads on a very good performance despite only have 11 of our panel available. Goals scored by Louis humphries and ciaran griffin
