Fota House – We’re Open For 2014 Season

fotahouse111April 7th, 2014- Fota House is now open for the 2014 season. Fota House offers you a special visiting experience. With its wealth of treasures, you can immerse yourself in a world of elegance and beauty. From daily house tours to regular outdoor events, there’s always something happening.

Kevin Baird, CEO of the Irish Heritage Trust who manage Fota House said “As a charity we depend on the support of visitors to Fota, so whether you use the car park to go for a walk, enjoy home cooking in the lovely café, have some family fun at an event or discover some of the hidden histories on a tour you are helping us care for this special place. If you are a regular visitor we are looking forward to welcoming you back and if you haven’t experienced Fota yet please come and discover the magic of this fantastic place.”

April at Fota House will see one of its biggest annual outdoor events the “Fota House Garden & Plant Fair” next Sunday (13th) when over seventy specialist nurseries will be selling unusual and special plants, including rare trees, shrubs, alpine, herbaceous and water plants etc. at reasonable prices. The Fota volunteers will also be selling plants grown in the Fota Victorian garden. On Easter Saturday (19th) the hugely popular annual Easter Egg Trail will run from 11am – 4pm offering families and children of all ages a fun and educational outdoor trail of clues and questions around the grounds of Fota House. This year the trail will end in Fota’s secret garden where there will extra activities available such as puppet shows, face painting and refreshments.

On May 4th & 5th Camp Wandsworth; An American Civil War Camp will bring us back 150 years to experience the life of the soldier and women of that time. Join the ladies for afternoon day in the Long Gallery. And on the 17th Virtuoso Classical Guitarist and Composer Pat Coldrick will give an evening performance in the Fota Drawing room.

There are many more events planned over the Summer and Fota House will remain open until October, 2014 from (10am to 5pm daily, Sundays from 11am to 4pm). Tours of the House and Victorian Kitchen Garden are available daily. The Café at Fota will be serving daily lunch specials and homemade cakes, an Irish summer delight!
