TECHSPACE Hub coming to the YMCA

Published

on

ymca1The YMCA have been involved in community education in Cobh since 1993 (STEP Program – PAKT Program) and we endeavour to keep our programs current and relevant to the climate we live in. Keeping this ethos in mind we continually seek out innovative and creative means to develop young people’s minds. One such project which we are very excited about is “Techspace at the Y”.

Techspace at the Y will provide young people with a creative space where they will be inspired to create, produce and have fun with digital media. Young people will be provided with FREE access to a fully kitted out digital space with a trained co-ordinator and experienced mentors.  The hub is designed to empower young people to become more capable creative and confident learners. Young people who come to the hub are enabled to explore their own creativity using the technology provided – (Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premiere Elements). Some activities they can do are; Film, music production, photography, graphic  design animation and many more.

TechSpaces offers an informal and practical atmosphere, designed to keep young people involved and active. Young people do not need prior experience or skills in using computers, however, an interest in technology and creative media is a good starting point. A TechSpace is designed to be a safe environment in which young people get the opportunity to work with like minded people, make friends and have fun creating.

An individual computer or laptop is made available to every young person to work on, however, members are also free to use their own laptops, whether PC, Mac or Linux.
Each day members work on their own projects and get one-to-one assistance, guidance and support from the TechSpace coordinator and volunteers. Activities include both individual and group projects on themes chosen by the young people themselves.

Techspace at the Y is holding an open day in September 2013  – if you are aged between 15 and 25 and you have an interest in digital media and you want to learn more contact Hulda (021) 4814060 or find them on https://www.facebook.com/cobhymca for further details or watch this space…
