Under 15 National Cup

Belvedere 4 Springfield Ramblers 0

The Springfield Ramblers Under 15 Premier League squad’s National Cup run came to an end at the hands of a very impressive Belvedere team from Dublin & District Schoolboys League. Playing at the high class grounds of Phoenix FC in Scribblestown the Belvedere side were too strong on the day for the Springfield lads. Springfield Ramblers started brightly and Gavin Lynch was unlucky when after a great run on the right his shot went narrowly wide. The home side opened the scoring with a great volleyed goal after five minutes. With this advantage they settled down and kept the ball for long periods of the game. However they failed to create any clear-cut chances and the Cobh boys were still in the game with twenty minutes to go. As Springfield Ramblers chased the game the home side scored again and proceeded to add two more goals before the finish. There is great credit due to the Springfield Ramblers lads after a great run in the national competition with wins over Kilreen, Corinthians, Newcastlewest of Limerick and Evergreen of Kilkenny.

U15 National Cup Squad

Academy Under 9s

Both Springfield Ramblers under 9 teams won against Rockmount on Sunday 21st March.

In a 4-3 victory there was some great play and running from mid-field from Conor Walsh, Sean Damery and Cian O’Mahony while the back line was governed by Killian Hackett and Sean Manley Kelly. In goal Oisin was ever dependable and a class apart as he managed to keep the shooting to a minimum. A never say die attitude from the whole team brought four fine goals from Adam Delaney, Olan Farrell and two from Ciaran Fleming. All in all the performance capped another great display from an ever improving team.

In the other game Springfield Ramblers beat Rockmount 3 – 2. Having been two goals down going into the final third, Springfield turned it around to win 3 – 2 in a close and hard fought match. The goals came from Jamie Gilmartin, Con Lynch and an o.g. Well done to the team for a great result. Looking forward to more of the same for the next game when we play Tramore!

Under 11 Premier League

Springfield Ramblers 0 Mallow United 1

Springfield Ramblers lost out in this top of the table clash at the VEC grounds. Playing against the league leaders the Springfield Ramblers lads controlled the game for long periods and only for a brief lapse of concentration in the first half which led to the Mallow goal they should have won this game. They can count themselves unlucky after a great performance in which they created several scoring chances. However with four games remaining in the league race and with a game in hand over the leaders it is still all to play for. Well done to all the lads.

Under 16 National Cup

Cobh Ramblers 0 Midleton 1

Cobh Ramblers lost out in their quest to progress to the quarter finals of the Under 16 National Cup in this hard fought tie against Midleton at Pat O’Brien Park. In a very tight match there were very few goals scoring chances. The away side started brightly and controlled the game for the first fifteen minutes but as the half progressed the Cobh side began to gain the upper hand but could not carve out any clear-cut opportunities. In the second half as the home side pressed to gain an advantage they were undone when a mistake in midfield allowed the Midleton side to gain possession and a shot from the edge of the penalty area beat Sean Barron in the Cobh goal to give the away side the lead. This was to be the only goal of the game as the Ramblers team could not find the way to break down the Midleton defence. Best on the day for the Cobh side were the back four of Danny Lynch, Niall Griffin, Jamie Moynihan and Man of the Match Eoin Hastings.

Under 16 Division 2

Strand United 3 Springfield Ramblers 2

Springfield Ramblers lost out in this Under 16 Division 2 tie at Ballyanley. The goals were scored by Ian Aherne and Ian Murphy and best on the day were Jon Butler, Sean Power and Paul Owens.

Under 14 Division 1

Springfield Ramblers 2 Fermoy 0

This was another good victory for the Springfield Ramblers Under 14 team where after a shaky first ten minutes the home side dominated. There were two good goals by James O’Flynn, one with either foot. The back four of captain Jason Keating, Graham O’Connor, Danny Noonan, Niall Galvin along with goalkeeper Kieran Histon played very well. Kyle Pender gave another aggressive display in the centre of midfield. Well done to all

Academy Under 8s

Springfield Ramblers U8’s were unlucky to lose this game as they were only one goal down going into the last 15 minutes. Tramore Ath showed their strength in going on to win comfortably in the end. Cobh fought hard and created some good chances but were unlucky not to finish them. There were outstanding performances by Morgan Dillon Hilton at the back, Tom Gill & Evan Roche doing trojan work in midfield & Nathan O’Connell & Ciaran Griffin creating some fine chances. This was a good physical game that will stand to the lads going into the league in two weeks time. Well done to all and keep up the hard work!
