Leeds 1 Springfield Ramblers 1 (AET)
Springfield Ramblers win 5-4 on penalties.
Springfield Ramblers came out on top after extra time and penalties in their Under 13 Local Cup fixture away to fellow Premier Division side Leeds. A tight game finished 1-1 after extra time and it took seven penalties from each side to decide the tie. The Springfield Ramblers side went a goal up in the first half from a Jamie McCarthy header but conceded a penalty before half time from which the home side equalised. Springfield Ramblers had the better of the second half chances but neither team could break down two tight defences. The penalty scorers for Springfield Ramblers were John Kennedy, Kevin Fitzgerald, Robert Hughes, Michael Meaney and Gary Stack, and goalkeeper Cathal O’Hanlon also made two crucial saves.
Under 15 Local Cup
Fermoy 1 Springfield Ramblers 1
Fermoy won 4-2 on penalties.
Although having control of the game for long periods Springfield Ramblers lost out in this local cup tie to a dogged Fermoy side at Carrig Park. Springfield Ramblers started well and threatened the Fermoy goal but were undone when a breakaway out of defence led to the Fermoy goal after fifteen minutes. The Springfield Ramblers side continued to press and created several chances but were unable to beat the impressive Fermoy goalkeeper.
The second half continued in the same vein until Springfield Ramblers were finally rewarded for their efforts when Marc Wyatt rose powerfully in the penalty area to head home from Jason Abbott’s pinpoint corner kick. It looked as though Springfield Ramblers would kick on from there as they continued to enjoy the best of the possession creating scoring chances throughout the remainder of the game. The centre back pairing of Marc Wyatt and John Flanagan were resolute in preventing any encroachment on Shane Hallahan’s goal by the Fermoy side. However the Springfield Ramblers side could not convert any of their chances and the match went to extra time. The Fermoy side won out on the day in the dreaded penalty shoot-out.

Under 11 Local Cup
Springfield Ramblers B 1 Midleton 6
Springfield Ramblers cup run came to an end against a very strong Midleton Under 11 first team. Springfield Ramblers took a first half lead through an Alex Ryan free kick. Midleton levelled just before half time to leave the score 1-1 at the break. Midleton had to make five changes at half time to cope with Springfield Ramblers Under 10 development squad. The Springfield Ramblers lads can be very proud of their performance as they are still learning with every game and great times are surely ahead for this squad.
