Cobh Pirates Notes – 16th August

Published

on

Cobh Pirates RFC would like to thank those who sponsored the players fundraisers in the last few weeks. The 10k run took part on a balmy Saturday certainly tested the “elder lemons” who felt all the past injuries by the time they reached Ballynoe  Hill. Reaching the summit of the hill  was a good test for those ” not built for running”.

At this years Cobh Regatta we once again had the stand where people had the chance to select a player or Pirate and launch sponges full of cold water at them as they stood with their head at the mercy of the firing squad. Better again was when some parents were nabbed by their loved ones, and the velocity of the throwing strangely increased.

Coming up next is the annual Golf Classic in Cobh Golf Club on Fri 26th Aug. 3 ball scramble, €90.00 per Team, Team of 3 Seniors €60.00. Instalment payments taken by any Committee Member, or in the Keen House. 1st prize 3x €200.00 vouchers for Pro Shop. Tee times are now being taken by Cobh Golf Club, 0214812399. There is also a prize for the first ladies team, and any interested golfers can contact the golf club directly, or any committee member, as there are slots available on teams also. All funds raised are going towards the rejuvenation of the club dressing rooms, which has already commenced. The juvenile tag competition is also underway on Monday evenings, and rugby training will recommence the first Saturday in September for the children. Kids aged 5 and upwards are coached by our certified coaches. Last year we had 300 children playing rugby across the age groups, and we hope to build on that this year again. The club will be receiving an Automated External Defibrillator in the coming weeks, and coaches will be fully trained and certified in its use along with sports related first aid.

The rugby starts in earnest this year on Sunday 4th September where both adult mens teams are in cup action. As training is now in full swing the club would welcome any players, regardless of experience, to the Paddock. Rugby is a fantastic team sport and an enjoyable method of increasing fitness levels. And remember the ladies section are now also looking to recruit to their numbers to build on their successful maiden season.

The club would like to wish all their players, in all grades a successful and safe season.
