The Cork Womens Schoolgirl Soccer League were in town on Saturday at the newly built astro-turf in  Carrignafoy as part of a road show which is travelling around the cork area encouraging girls to play football.

Members of Springfield Ramblers Girls were joined on the pitch by some very special guests including Denise O’Sullivan, who was part of the under 17 World Cup team who reached the Quarter Final stages, laura Lynch from Wilton United and Riverstowns Megan Spillane. They also had some  help from Dave Bell and Emma Martin who work with F.A.I and Cobh’s very own Mary Guilfoyle.

“We are aware that there’s a lot of work being done for girls through teams such as Springfield Ramblers and we are concious that there has to be an aspect of fun involved and that’s really why we are here, to encourage the girls to have fun playing football.” said Stephen Lynch of CWSSL.

The team were all on hand for the afternoon to encourage the girls to try new tricks,  play games and generally have fun.  At the end of the afternoon the girls had a go at a  penalty shootout and went home with a goody bag.
