Oesophageal Cancer Fund – A Thank You

Published

on

I have been the area manager for the above charity for the last 7 years and we have been selling lollipops in Supervalu each year for two days in February and the River Room and the Roaring Donkey pub sell the lollipops on behalf of my late partner, Dominic “Doggie” Keaney, who died of this cancer 7 years ago, April 18th.  This particular cancer charity has raised enormously the profile of this cancer and how lethal it is if you do not get it at the early stages. The main objective of the OCF is to raise the awareness of the symptoms and I can safely say that over the years people have become more aware of this lethal cancer and each year more and more people tell me when we are selling the lollipops how one of their loved ones has actually got through it because it was caught in time.

This year over the two days in Supervalu and a “pub crawl” with the lollipops we raised €1400.00 which is a magnificent amount for a town the size of Cobh. Thanks to all the people of Cobh who purchased lollipops and pins and have contributed enormously to saving peoples lives.

Thankyou,

Fionnghuala Smith

(17, Bishop Street, Cobh).
