Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton has leant his support to the establishment of a local radio service in Cobh. Deputy Stanton has been assisting a small group of people who are examining the possibility of developing a community radio station for Cobh and the Harbour area.
”It would be great to see a community radio station in operation in the Cobh area. Community radio is great asset to any community. Youghal has been fortunate to have had an excellent radio service which has been very successful for many years.
”Community radio provides a great medium for local businesses to advertise products and services, and also for different community groups to keep people updated about their activities. A local radio service can also prove very important for many elderly people or other people who are housebound as it can keep them updated about what it happening in their locality. It can also broadcast religious services and reports from other events.
”I believe that community radio station in Cobh would be a very worthwhile project. Hopefully those trying to set it up will get all the support they need to get up and running soon”, concluded Deputy Stanton
