Cork City Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of Jamie Murphy.

The 20 year old striker, who impressed for Cobh Ramblers in the A Championship last season, put pen to paper after the squad trained at Carrigtwohill Community Centre yesterday evening, and he told CorkCityFC.net that he was pleased to have signed: “This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I am delighted to have signed. I’ve always supported the club, and used to go and watch them regularly when I was younger, so it is an honour to get the chance to play for the club.”

“I’ve trained with the club over the last week, and the training has been excellent. It has been harder than I am used to, but training with better players will help me to progress, and I want to make the most of the opportunity.”

Commenting on the signing, City boss Tommy Dunne said he is looking forward to working with the striker: “We watched Jamie a couple of times when he was with Cobh last season, and we had another look at him in the friendly we played against Cobh a couple of weeks ago and he impressed.”

“He’s a raw talent, he’s pacey and he’s lively, and we he can develop over the next year or two. He will have to work hard on some aspects of his game, and we will have to work hard with him to help him fulfil his potential. Our first challenge is to get him right physically, so we will be sending him to LeisureWorld to work on the weights, and we will also be working with him on the coaching side.”

Dunne also confirmed that Murphy, who played for Mayfield United at underage level, will join three of his new teammates (Gearoid Morrissey, Kalen Spillane and Simon Holland) in the Republic of Ireland Under 21 Home-based Selection for the forthcoming training game versus Ireland Amateur Squad.
